When people compare industrial electric motors, they talk about power rating and efficiency class — but rarely about the laminations inside. Yet the core is where most of a motor’s energy losses happen, so lamination quality quietly decides how efficient the motor really is.
Where the losses come from
A motor core loses energy two ways. Eddy currents circulate inside the steel; thin, clean, electrically-separated laminations keep them small. Hysteresis losses depend on the steel grade. Good stampings attack both.
The three quality levers
- Steel grade: consistent electrical-grade CRCA keeps magnetic properties uniform.
- Burr control: low burr stops laminations shorting together, which would raise eddy losses and heat.
- Stacking accuracy: perfectly aligned slots reduce cogging and make winding easier.
Why it pays off
A motor built on precise, low-loss laminations draws less current for the same output, runs cooler and lasts longer. Over years of operation that is real money saved on the electricity bill — which is why OEMs specify precision stampings rather than general-purpose pressings.
Shree Balaji manufactures precision electrical stampings, motor laminations and BLDC cores for industrial electric motors across India. To source or develop a core, call +91 98991 00494 or enquire online.
